Can- Am Results for MMA, BJJ, & Kickboxing: Posener’s MMA
Congratulations to the competitors who went for it at the Can- Am International Martial arts Tournament in Richmond B.C. on Sunday April 28 ’19. Rachel Hofer got two belts In the MMA division winning decisively and moving up in weight category to get an extra shot and an extra challenge. She was rewarded for her efforts by being awarded the most outstanding MMA Competitor of the tournament. Awesome Rachel. She also got a bronze medal in the Kickboxing competition and would have also competed in BJJ but was too late registering. We look forward to her progress and next steps in her training.
Adam Posener also won a belt in the MMA division competing against a 16 year old and winning a tough match cleanly with 3 out of 3 takedowns and top position control and active ground and pound striking. He was close to finishing the arm triangle choke from the side mount, which was tight but defended strongly by a very good competitor. Great to see those excellent young men compete and conduct themselves well.
Tabitha Tam won a gold medal in the Gi BJJ, a silver medal in the MMA, and a silver medal in the No Gi BJJ. Tabby has certainly been going for it in competitions and apparently enjoying the challenge.
Zola Mitchell won a bronze and a Silver in BJJ and she is also enjoying the competitive experience and making progress each time out. OSU!
Gus and Rachel both got Bronze in the Kickboxing. Gus moved up to fight a 211 pounder in the advanced division against an experienced opponent.. great work Gus. You will learn and progress. Win or learn is the common expression but, in my opinion, progress is always the driving force; equanimity of spirit. Honorable mention to Stas and Edison for getting their feet wet in the early stages of their competitive kickboxing experience. Great to see them enjoying the challenge and developing skills.
I would like to say thank you to our awesome instructor team, George Kassimatis, Costa Rojas, Hayden Francis, Ed Kumar, Lance Kawi, Gus Rodriquez, Julian Paul, and the many other assistant instructors.
Also heart felt appreciation to the parents and students who support the school and contribute to the ‘Way’. OSU!
