Our Muay Thai Kickboxing Vancouver is one of two aspects of our Kickboxing Vancouver program. We also teach Cardio Muay Thai Kickboxing. The differences are largely in focus. Our Traditional Muay Thai Kickboxing Vancouver program will work towards the benefits of Self defense, Fitness, Mental Discipline and Sport. The students are required to spar to advance in the class. The advanced students are required to do full contact Muay Thai sparring with elbow pads and headgear on. The program utilizes techniques and approaches from Thailand, Japan and Holland, with the incorporation of Dutch style kickboxing, and influences of Western boxing approaches. Our style is mixed and we emphasize a traditional philosophy. The goals is to develop the technique and the spirit of the individual in the art and have resultand personal developments off the mat. The Cardio MuayTha Kickboxing program utilizes the same techniques but is more fitness intensive and less combative intensive.
The regular Muay Thai Kickboxing program will have students spar after they have learned the A,B,C’s of defense, proper footwork basics and use of basic attacks. Once the preliminaries are done a student will work towards a progressive level of contact and develop full contact skills. The Cardio Muay Thai Kickboxing program will not engage in full contact sparring. The class is a little less formal, done to music and develops skills and high levels of physical performance. Students in the Cardio Muay Thai Kickoxing program will engage in one step sparring, sharp shooting, and some advanced studdents would engage in semi free sparring. There won’t be the same pressure of having to engage in full contact sparring. The class is enjoyed by those who do spar in the full program and those who are more interested in learning the skills and developing a high level of physical fitness.
The tradtional Muay Thai Kickboxing Vancouver program is also based on a belt curriculum or method of imparting skills. The Cardio Muay Thai Kickboxing program is also stuctured on a level system, which is based on attendance and skill development and fitness improvement within the indidvidual. The regular muay thai program has a requirement of sparring with some level of contact. Begginners are not required to do full contact but the advanced students, as mentioned earlier, are required to do it.
